Maces Bay is said to be named for Benjamin Mace, a surgeon in the 22nd Regiment in the 1770's, by Des Barres, who was a subaltern of infantry in the King’s service.  

According to the NB achive website, historical documents confirm his position and role in naming the area, however there is limited personal details about his life
